 Special train promo!

trains are important transport to bath and bradford on avon  This gorgeous little train station, just minutes from the cottage, makes coming by train one of the greenest and least stressful ways to reach the town and it's much easier than coming by camel or elephant.  Besides, so much can be done by foot, hire-bike, train and skates.  You can even take a canoe to the Cross Guns pub down river.  When you take a holiday to Bradford on Avon, why not give your car a holiday too?

Arriving by car

Motorists, especially those coming from London, will take the M4 motorway to Bradford on Avon via the Chippenham exit or the Bath exit.

After you have entered the town from the A363 from Bath/M4 after about 1/2 mile you come to the roundabout at the Castle Inn (see photograph below) and the spired church.

You take the 2nd exit onto Mason's Lane.  If you have come from Chippenham/M4 (via the B3109, A4 and A350), then you will take the first exit at this roundabout onto Mason's Lane.  Follow this lane round to the left at the 'Witches house' (on the right corner - a thatched cottage) onto Market Street.  At the roundabout at the bottom of the hill, take the first left and then immediately another first left by the Kings Arms Pub.  This brings you onto Coppice Hill.

Note the location of these pubs for subsequent feeding stations.

Entering the town from the B3107 from Holt and Melksham or Devises via the A361) will bring you down Woolley Street, which merges into Silver Street (towards the end of the Hill).  Look out for the Kings Arms at the bottom and turn immediately right up Coppice Hill.

Entering the town from the A363 from Trowbridge on the Trowbridge Road or from the A36 via the B3109 on the Frome Road brings you to the ancient town bridge across the Avon River (the one with the prison on it).  Once you have crossed over the bridge, take the 2nd exit on the round-a-about onto Silver Street, and take the immediate left by the Kings Arm pub.  If you are on foot or cycling, you can easily stop here for a drink before carrying on up Coppice Hill to Quince Cottage.

It's the fourth house up on the right from the Kings Arms on Coppice Hill.

You can park the car to unload your luggage just up beyond the front door of the cottage.

Parking

The many advantages of staying right at the heart of the historic centre of Bradford on Avon heavily outweigh the one disadvantage - parking is limited to three spaces on the hill.   Happily, you are unlikely to need the car a great deal once here.  Just park immediately after the front door to unload your luggage.  Parking is a few minutes up the road and allows you to get your bearings and see what a lovely place you have come to!  Here's a link to a Google map for the best free parking for Quince Cottage.  Guidance is provided if needed.  Not one of my guests has found this a problem - in fact it provides a lovely introduction to the town.

There are excellent train services to Bradford-on-Avon, with services to many attractions, such as Bath, historic Salisbury, Somerset and Dorset. The immediate vicinity can easily be done on foot and by rent-a-bike when visiting for a few days. Here's a link for train details:

The train station is six minutes from Quince Cottage, which you reach by turning left at the main road.   You then walk a couple of hundred yards to the town bridge and cross over this to the other side.  Go over the roundabout to the immediate turning on the left by the Kings Arms Pub.  This is Coppice Hill.  Grab a drink at the pub so you can check out their excellent menu and get the low down on Bradford on Avon from the locals.  Once you have quenched your thirst and gastronomic curiosity and made a few friends, I am 60 steps or so up on the right hand side.
